Where is your treasure?
Consider the flowers of the field in their beauty
More lovely than even the clothes of a king
Consider the birds of the air
Flying high, flying free You are precious to me

Seek ye first - what a verse!
Seek ye first - what a verse!
What's it going to be? God or money? Treasures on earth or treasures in heaven? Worrying about looking after ourselves or trusting in our Heavenly Dad to look after us? Have a listen, and be encouraged to join me in changing priorities this week from ours to God's.

How sweet the name
How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds
In a believer’s ear!
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.
It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast;
’Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary, rest.
Dear Name, the Rock on which I build,
My Shield and Hiding Place,
My never failing treasury, filled
With boundless stores of grace!
By Thee my prayers acceptance gain,
Although with sin defiled;
Satan accuses me in vain,
And I am owned a child.
Jesus! my Shepherd, Husband, Friend,
O Prophet, Priest and King,
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring.
Weak is the effort of my heart,
And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see Thee as Thou art,
I’ll praise Thee as I ought.
Till then I would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath,
And may the music of Thy Name
Refresh my soul in death!
- John Newton, a man who gambled, drank, swore, traded and abused slaves, until God's Amazing Grace found him.

It is my fortieth

40 years of God's faithfulness
"Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them" (Ephesians 4:29).
This applies to youngsters (<40) and oldsters (>40) and those of us poised on the pivot of life's seesaw.
God's Word is remarkably blunt about how much time we have on this earthly pilgrimage:
"Seventy years are given to us! Some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away" (Psalm 90:10).
I have longevity genes in my family so I reckon I've got a good shot at 80, though of course my life is in the Lord's hands and any moment could be my final breath. Assuming I do make it to 80, though, this means my 'life's battery' is at 50%. A bit like my iPhone after, oh I don't know, 10am!
It's a pretty sobering thought.
More likely than not, I've lived at least half my life.
And what have I got to show for it?
40 years of God's faithfulness.
